The cavernous sinus contains the internal carotid artery with its small branches, the carotid plexus of sympathetic nerves, the oculomotor nerve, the trochlear nerve, the trigeminal nerve (the ophthalmic division and occasionally the maxillary division), and the abducent nerve.

The maxillary nerve gives off branches to
the pterygopalatine ganglion

The superficial temporal artery supplies the facial muscles and skin of the frontal and temporal regions, while the transverse facial artery supplies the parotid gland and duct as well as muscles and skin of the face.
